Social Good For All

My agency is hosting a panel, called Social Good for All, during Social Media Week NY, and my team and I took the reigns of it.

Talking about social media today sounds like I’m 2005, but it’s not necessarily the case when brands are actually entering our social graphs today. A handful are using it to share their stories on social good and hoping we open up to them. And by demonstrating a kind of transparency, openness, and honesty about their good initiatives, they are appealing to us in ways we have never imagined. So this is what’s up for grabs on Friday’s panel: Are brands/companies acting out of altruism or out of pure self-interest? How far should brands and businesses take transparency and honesty? What does the ‘new power’ of social media demand?

Cindy Gallop from If We Ran the World, will be moderating the match, with Shiv Singh of Pepsi, Alnoor Ladha of Purpose, Paull Young of Charity Water, Max Schorr of GOOD Magazine, and Christopher Bishop of IBM in the ring.

Oh, and I went straight to the street with my video camera to get some real opinions on using social media to share good. Panelists are encouraged to cut through the marketing speak and respond to people’s thoughts. And, yep, they were New Yorkers alright (the kind from Union Square.)

It’s this Friday, Feb 11 from noon to 2pm, in the People & Society hub of The Paley Center for Media.

Come, be stimulated, and say hello.
